First contact is made between a Great Lakes Timber team member & a Landowner . A team member gets permission to give the forest a walk .
REMEMBER : We only harvest 10 acres or more .
Once permission is giving to a team member we simply walk the woods. THATS IT! We dont mark or tag any trees. We look & measure the trees . If RT himself doesn't do the first assessment, team members will take pictures and notes of some of the timber species . Rt will then take a walk and finish the estimate.
Unfortunately sometimes certain forests don‘t fit our needs. Whether it be too small/ too young & we see it in the best interest of the forest for it to grow before harvesting. Sometimes forest lack the hardwood species we are looking for . If this is the case we will inform you that your forest just simply doesn't benefit from a timber harvest plan.
Good news! Your forest fit our needs and we see a timber harvest plan in the future. If this is the case we will contact you regarding our estimate and how much we can offer to pay you for said harvest. We will go over the plan that works for your forest. A proposal of the estimate or a contract can be sent at this point .
Once a contract is signed , It is time to get the harvesting process started. We pay in full before the harvesting unless stated otherwise in contract. We can use machinery or horses depending on the Terrain ( Don't want our horses getting hurt)
* We do leave tops. But we don’t leave any widow makers or dangerous hazards in the Forest.
* Do you try to repair any ruts or damage of that sorts to property
* We harvest as low to the ground as possible so leaving stumps low to ground.
Any special request? Just ask and we will try to accommodate such as “ That tree with a treehouse in it must stay for my children”
